The first playday, held at Fullerton Junior College in December 1930, was a red letter day for women’s athletics at Santa Monica College. attended playdays with other colleges such as Fullerton, Occidental, and Glendale. Tennis, bowling, basketball, swimming, archery were just some of the sports that were played by SMC’s female students. The Women’s Athletic Association (W.A.A.) was first organized in November of 1929 with a purpose to uphold the highest ideals of good sportsmanship and encourage the spirit of service to the Junior College. SMC is leading the way together-safely, with empathy, and a deep commitment to SMC students. It’s hard to be down when you’re with a smiling baby □” On a more personal note, having my daughter has been such a wonderful source of positivity. We had each other to lean on during the height of the pandemic.

“Having weekly meetings with my team and group texts really helped to keep things light during dark times. I don’t like that transition, so I’ll be glad when it’s over.” Without that time, I am jumping from something like household chores straight into a meeting, or a report. I found that the drive to and from campus helped to mentally prepare me for the day. “I think it’s harder to balance work and life when you’re home, but everyone has a different experience. It makes me proud to work for an institution that always puts students first when making hard decisions, like having to be remote.” Our staff are so thoughtful, kind, and focused on student success and wellbeing. It will be so nice to be back and see people again!
